    Default Heating pads

I have been using a lamp but want to switch. Does the heating pad need to be as long as the tank or smaller and just put in in the center. I have Gromp in a 5 gallon at the moment since he is still small (I'll switch him to the ten gallon when he's bigger) How big should the heating pad be?

Heating pad should cover no more than half wall but placed at one end not the middle, this allows a thermal gradient

I don't use one, I use a heat lamp but should show you in the instructions. What you wanna do it place it so it's half the wall, but above substrate, in line with the top so the animal can come in contact with it. You want to put a digital thermometer probe directly on the mat. You'll need either a on/off or pulse proportial thermostat to regulate the temperatures, the probe should also be in contact with the mat, on the inside of the tank

All im going to say about this is once you put it on the side your going to lose a few degrees, its going to happen. If you cover 2/3 of the top with foil or saran wrap it helps from letting the heat escape. As the heat rises it is reflected back down into the tank. I do this and it helps a lot, and the way mine is setup is I have2/3 covered but 2 parts cut out instead of covering 2/3 and haveing just one opening for the air. This way there is a intake and outtake for airflow which will help a lot from the air going stagnant. Oh almost forgot the foil helps keep heat in better then saran wrap. I find saran wrap is ok if your just trying to trap humidity but isn't the best for heat.

Sorry mate I didn't notice your message there til now but here's a pic, It's currently night time so not really that great. I have a small low exo terra with coir substrate, hanging plant, large water dish, 50w infrared heat lamp which is usually on a microclimate b1me dimming thermostat but using it with another tank and keeping a close eye on temps for now, also have a digital thermometer and hydrometer in there. It's pretty simple but that's all you need for these guys

I need to get a plant for Gromp's tank. Do you use fake or real plants?

Fake plants, the Exo Terra silk plants are ideal as they're soft and not made out of rough plastic. If you want to go for a live plant I'd leave it in it's pot as the frog will probably dig it up and it'll be easier to clean the tank that way
