Thread: UVA/UVB for Red Eyed Tree Frog?

  1. #1

Default UVA/UVB for Red Eyed Tree Frog?

I was always told that these guys don't need UV lighting. But then I also have heard people say they'd benefit from it as well. What are your guys/gals thoughts on this?

Todd at Lightyourreptiles (who really knows his stuff) said the bird bulb is perfect for them. I'm just curious what you all think. Are there any cons wit this? Can it hurt their eyes?

    Thanks!

IMO as one with no real scientific background on the subject.....

UVA or UVB just isn't a necessary part of any lighting system for Aquarium, vivarium, terrarium, etc, etc. And not even is it of value for growing plants. So the only plus for advertising a UVA or UVB value in lighting would be to show that your lighting system is lower in UVA/B than other competitors.

Fad's come and go.... uv is one of them.

It will only hurt them if they're albino. I would go with a low level, 2.0. Not sure what the bird lights are.
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"

0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
    0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"

This is what it says for the bird bulb. 2.4% UVB and 12% UVA. Will that be ok?

Are there cheaper options than these? These run $25.

    Thanks again.

The only place I hear don't use lights is this forum. Look at frog world.net or sciencelearn.org MBD then make your own decision.

I don't think anyone hear argues with the value of doing your own research. However, if someone asks a question, we will answer it. No one is saying DO NOT use these lights except in the case of albino animals.
