Hello all. New to the forum and the hobby, and loving it!
My Son and I have 2 Horned Frogs. And this, the 2nd one is what I am curious about.
Wondering if you folks think He's a Ornate or Caatinga?
We got him from Pxtcx. (Not sure if I can say names or what here..) anyway, been watching him for a month or so at the store, and had to have him. He was labeled Ornate, but I am not sure. (Read here and don't see black "back eyes, although see green ones...)
*in case you are wondering how I knew he was a he, well, last night he whistle croaked most of the night. Especially after my wife coughed as she has a cold. I can say I was not expecting that!
Had tried 2x to put the pics here, and said wrong file type, (was jpeg.?) Anyway here on mega:

Thanks in advance. Glad to be here!
Hello and welcome to frog forum!
Unfortunately there is a problem with the photo uploader :/. And for whatever reason I can't see the photos. Using photobucket to upload photos or using the forum through tapatalk will allow you to upload them.
Yes, you can say names here like Petco

Hello, and welcome to the forum. To be honest I don't think its either, it looks like a Cranwelli to me. Im almost 100% sure, looks exactly like the Cranwelli they have here at petsmart were I live. Doesn't look like an ornate, almost all I see have the false spots. Not saying you couldn't get one without, im pretty sure you may be able but it is one of the most common traits. And if you got a Catinga from petco you lucked out big time, but I don't think it is. I think you got yourself a nice looking Cranwelli.

Thanks so much for the quick replies. I guess I didn't think it would be a Cranwelli, as the colors are muted and the label. But hey, I'm okay with whatever. He's a spunky guy, and eats wonderfully. Will post pics in our profile also when I can. Thanks for the welcome! (I'm like a kid again with this hobby! )Truly enjoying them and learning about them is half the fun!

You know what it isn't a Ornate but it does look like a caatinga, maybe it is. I was just looking at pictures of caatingas and it does look one, so I wouldn't rule it out yet. I seen a picture that came up that was a face shot of darker one like this one and they looked the exact same. You never know, and there is so many Cranwelli morphs it is so easy to be tricked. I know this because I also thought I came upon one of these about a month ago it looked exact, but I actually called breeder and he informed that he didn't breed caatingas. Theres a couple people on here that have this species and few others that will hopefully see this and give you a 100% answer. But I know its not ornate, im hopeing it is a Caatinga because if it is im going to get the one at petsmart I mentioned in the earlier post because they could be twins.
The online pictures are what got me thinking also. There is a picture of one that could be ours Dad. Thanks for another look. I can ask the guy at the Petco where he came from, maybe the one up near you is from the same breeder? I think this one is about 6 months old or so... not 100% on age, but we have a 3 month old Albino Cranwelli, and he is maybe 3x the size. Shape is different also. Lots more bumps, and that green yellow "crows foot" on the back, and he is active comparatively to the albino. We shall see...
Thanks again.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Looks like a nice cranwelli . Ornata have a false eye spot or dot on the back of each eye lid. Caatinga are very rare.
This cutie has the markings of a cranwelli .

I went back to Petsmart after the last time and checked out that pacman I said looked the same and it was a Cranwelli. There is so many Cranwellis morphs out there as I said before its so easy to be tricked. And petco having it labeled as a caatinga and being wrong doesn't surprise me at all. I would also like to get one, have a tank put aside already and everything but I know I will probably waiting awhile because the guy here at the shop also said the same as heather that they are one of the pacmans that's abit harder come buy CB ones. The pacman i would absolutely die for though is the C. Stolzmanni, but i don't see myself finding them anytime soon either.
I did some research on the C. Stolzmanni and am impressed. Would love one also. Located a breeder with Cb pair, not sure on age, etc.. contacted them and will fill you in when I have details.
