Their bodies are put under more demand to develop and release hundreds of eggs at each breeding, never mind needing to be strong enough to carry the male around during amplexus attempts which can last several hours.

It is very common in sexually dimorphic frogs for the females to be larger than the males. Another reason is male aggression. Some male frogs become very aggressive during breeding season, often injuring or even killing other frogs. This aggression can turn on females that are not ready to breed; or they may be attacked accidentally. Larger females have a better chance of surviving these attacks.

Another hypothesis is that most animals grow slower once reaching sexual maturity. Male frogs can normally breed at a much younger age than females. Until the males reach sexual maturity, their growth rate is similar to a female. Once they reach this age, their growth slows down considerably.

And, honestly, females are much more important for breeding. One male can breed multiple females in a season. Whereas a female will usually breed once before needing a few months to develop more eggs. It takes much more energy for a female to develop eggs than for a male to develop his contribution.

Well i think that can be said about most species,it takes a woman 1 month, takes a male 5 minutes. Any way subject at hand. It looks like my female afc bullies the male for the food when i drop it the tank. She is always right in there for the feed while he tends to stay back a bit

I keep 4 adults per 29 gallon aquarium when they aren't in the breeding racks. I will be building a 125 gallon riparium soon. It will hold about 75 gallons of water.
