Thread: Aqueon LED hood

    Default Aqueon LED hood

I'm thinking about buying the deluxe led aqueon hood for my 10 gallon tank. There will be fire belly toads in there. I'm going to have plants as well.
Would you recommend this light? It has space for 2 led lights. Comes with a white light. Should I go for the colormax bulb or beautymax? Or take out the white? Which 2 bulbs would be the best?

Confused. Is it an LED fixture? Or incandescent?

For that price, you can probably find a full led fixture at aquatraders.com

The fixture itself would work fine provided the bulbs (strips) are at a color temp of roughly 6500k. That's the optimum color temp for foliage plants.

Thanks! I liked the fact that it's a full hood for my 10 gallon though

I have looked at these and didnt buy them for 2 main reasons.

    1. Hoods are not desined with frogs in mind but fish and are not escape proof
    2. It does nothing to help keep humidity in the tanks.

I have one, and its great lighting. Also, although it is designed for fish, It does keep the humidity in the tank. I have one and I mist once or twice a day and my humidity never falls bellow 70. I have a pacman so I don't need to worry about her getting out through the openings in the lid, but for a fire belly toad I imagine this lid would need to be modified a little. It would be easy to do and worth it. The lighting is great to look and your setup and frogs. Also, make sure the lighting isn't harmful to the little guys. Im sure for short periods of time it is ok but you should look into it.
