Default Hi I'm new! Building a paludarium..

Hi! Just came across this forum!! I've been looking online and came across a paludarium, so now I'm obsessed. I have a 10 gallon empty tank so I'm going to try my best and keep some fire belly toads.
I used touch n foam for ponds and put a piece of driftwood near the top. Then I hollowed out the foam for planting areas behind the wood. On the bottom I used floral foam and made an elevated land area which I will put soil and plants in. In the right rear corner I'm going to try for a waterfall coming out of the driftwood! Today I have everything in and I'm waiting for the rest of silicone to dry!!
What do you think so far??

Welcome to the Forum! I look forward to seeing how your paludarium turns out.

Epic Fail!![emoji35][emoji35] my foam did not adhere well to back wall and the black "waterproof" caulk did not work!!
    Back to the drawing board.......
My waterfall idea didn't come out so well either(but that's how I found leaks!)
So now I'm thinking of incorporating a reptofilter or whisper 10i filter to create the waterfall
    Stay tuned! Lol[emoji31]

So often people will want to put a water feature in their first build and 99% of the time it doesn't work so don't feel bad. I was hoping yours would work so I didn't say anything. Also, if this is for Fire Belly Toads they don't like a lot of water movement so make sure whatever you use as a filter wont disturb the water too much. Keep us updated on the build!

I used egg crate and pvc to create a false bottom/ramp into water area for my toads and run a filter in the corner of the ramp so it can filter both sides of the water. The filter is the whisper which also does a little waterfall by the shallow part of the water. I put fiberglass window screening on top of the egg crate to contain any substrate/moss when water ever comes down with misting or that filter. My enclosure isn't that big, but if you use slightly tall pvc pipes in a big tank, you can potentially make a neat paludarium.

Oh and maybe the foam did not adhere to the glass because no rubbing alcohol was used on the sides you wanted to foam. I watched background tuts and a lot of people recommended wiping the glass with rubbing alcohol then letting it dry so that the foam can stick much better.
