Hi guys, I'm wanting to switch to heating from above and I was thinking of using an infra red bulb but been reading reviews on a few saying that they keep blowing? Has anyone had any issues with them? I've read up that CHE are the best form of heating but since my frog only comes out at night, it would be nice to be able to view him with the light from the red bulb.
Thanks
Jason
I use UTH's but from what I understand the CHE doesn't dry out the tank as much as lights/ redlights. The blowing part im not sure of again I use UTH's but either form of overhead heating I suggest you get a dimmer to control the amount of heat being put off unless you have something like a rheostat or hydrotherm.
thanks cory. think i might go for a che with a pulse proportional and led lights to view him at night
What i've found to be a good combo is a 50w infrared or moonlight bulb with a daytime cfl bulb for viewing. I keep the infrared or moonlight bulb running 24/7 and my daytime cfl running 12hrs on average. Anything more and I can't maintain my humidity without it drying my tank out bad.
If you use a che I would get a 60w from flukes and see how it goes. Right now i'm literally pouring 2 cups of water on my eco earth then stirring it to maintain a mid 70s-80 humidity. Anything over 60w kills my humidity with an average 73f room temp.
flukers is hard to come by here, it's mostly brands like exo terra, komodo and pro rep in the uk. might try a 60w exo terra see how that goes. thanks
