i have a 10gallon set up for my new pacman frog and im going to be putting a heating pad on the side for him. can I use a uvb bulb on top for lighting or would that be to much for him? if so what light source can I use on top?
Imo I wouldn't even bother with a heating pad. It will lose all its efficiency on the side. What I did was grab a dome 150w clamp on work light from home depot $7-$8 along with a 75w std household bulb. You could probably do a 50w as I have a 20h tank. Just make sure you pay close attention to the distance from the top of the tank so you dont get it too hot in there for it. I mist 2-3 times daily to keep humidity ideal. Also I would put it over the water bowl side and use plants to shade the light so its not so bright. My 2c
Oh I also switch to a 50w reptile night bulb after hours.
hey pyru, what do you recommend a ceramic heat emmiter or the Home Depot bulb route? If I go to Home Depot route what I still need a thermostat for the bulb?
Your average room temp effects all thee above. I use a 60w red on a dimmer(full time heat) and my uvb is on a timer for day. Almost tinkering free...
I'll try my luck with a ceramic emitter. I guess a 50 watt should be good for a 40 gallon breeder
I like my home depot dome light. My temps and humidity stay in the ideal range. I use some fake ivy vine from michaels on top to create a filtered light effect so its not too bright. I do have to mist pretty heavy twice a day though.
Sorry for the late reply I was busy with fam and work.
