Which ones better for a pacman frog?
Which ones better for a pacman frog?
Hi, it totally all depends on your preference IMO. UTH's have to go on the side or back which makes you lose a lot of heat, I use these and have to put 2 on for the winter to keep it at 82F. I have a 30-40 on the back and a small 10-20 on the end, and they are on the same end, and I had to also build a 3 sided box around it. With lights or a CHE you have to deal with the humidity but if you have some kind of fogger system that shouldn't be a problem. In my opinion they both have there pains so it all depends on how much you want to fiddle with stuff to get the enclosure at the right temps and humidity, a hygrotherm will help a lot if you have one. Oh and if you choose to go with UTH's you almost always want to go a size higher then your tank when placing it on the side. I would buy a 30-40 for a normal 10 gallon tank and place it on the back.
Ok thanks for all the info. Iv been using a UTH but I don't think my frogs acting normal because I don't think the UTH is getting the enclosure to the right temp. He's currently in a tub with I'm guessing a 10 gal UTH. In the next few days I'm gonna get him a 10 gal tank and a heat lamp to see if his behavior changes any.
Ya the UTH's are a pain and will admit they are not the best way to heat a frog enclosure, without the box built around my tank they would be useless. If you go with the overhead heat from what I understand the CHE's don't dry the tank out as much as heat lamps/bulbs.
Yea I have a sprayer so his tank will never dry out. I'll give the light bulbs a chance.
If you have other herps, you can use a space heater to keep a room at the correct ambient temp. It works so well I don't even use heat pads for my frog anymore except during the coldest part of winter.
