    Default Wanted: baby pacman

    Hey guys.

So im looking for a nice little pacman. I don't care what gender.

I have been looking at the pretty colors, but there are so many to choose from.

    Strawberry
    Albino
    Strawberry pinapple
    apricot
    lemon

I'm girly but i LOVE toads (frogs too. Tree frogs are little psychos lol).

I love the pinks and oranges and yellows. Though because of the variations from tadpole to tadpole the
picture in the advertisement is never what the frog looks like...so i'm hesitant to buy from an online store.

Also, ive seen some adverts for pacman that..arent pacman?

    like this link here: http://www.reptilesncritters.com/alb...cman-frog.html

Pacman dont have the horns..that looks like a hybrid pacman/surinam horned frog? ive heard the hybrids are
called 'fantasy pacmans'. ive also heard they're sterile.

I just want to be sure the little frog i buy is indeed a pacman,.and i can see a picture of him before he's shipped to me...

Is that weird? Am i being too needy?

    -Jae

The pictures in ads often do look just like the frogs that you receive. Their colors will naturally get a bit duller when you put them on cocofiber, but other than that they should look about the same. Just be aware that some, such as green cranwellis will lose the green and turn more brown as they age. I'm sure some people on here can recommend a reputable breeder to you. Another option is to wait for a reptile show near you and buy one there. That way you see what you're getting before you buy. DON'T buy from a petstore though. They are widely known for treating the frogs poorly as well as selling sick frogs.

Pacman is a term that refers to many species of frog:
    C. ornata (Ornate pacman frog)
    C. cornuta (Suriname pacman frog)
    C. aurita (Brazilian pacman frog)
    C. cranwelli (Cranwell's pacman frog)

Fantasy's are a hybrid, but there are no health conditions associated with it. Sterility shouldn't matter as these frogs can be very difficult and not profitable for smalltime hobbyists to breed in captivity. Most of the morphs are going to be cranwellis. There are a couple other species out there, but these are the ones you're most likely to come across as a beginner.

Hi, I don't live in the states so I cant direct you to a good dealer but I can answer your other question. That picture is a pacman frog or a horned frog. Horned frog is the actual name besides the latin names that the different species have. They all have somewhat of horns and some are bigger or pointier then others and not all horned frogs are fat and lazy L.O.L, like the malaysain horned frog/toad. The one in the picture is a C Cranwelli and its albino, I have the same one and he is about 4 1/2 months old and he has some nice big horns. Pacman frog is just a name given because they have a huge mouth like Pacman, if you google images of horned frogs and then pacman frogs a lot of the same pictures will come up. Im editing this because Dvirginiana finished her post before me, after reading hers I guess The term Pacman frog is just for the lazy chubby horned frogs.

I've heard bad things about Big Apple. I'd avoid them.

Give this thread a day or two and someone will be able to direct you to a responsible breeder with plenty of variety.

Shipping is always going to be like that unless you live right next to them. I just got a baby scorpion that cost $14 but with shipping was nearly $60 (and he's ADORABLE). There's always a risk, but like I said you should wait for more people to chime in with their experiences with different breeders. Maybe start a new thread specifically asking about people's experiences with them.
Here's one I've generally heard positive things about

    http://mikesphatfrogs.weebly.com/

They also have more than just your common morphs. If you're really nervous about shipping I'd recommend looking up the next reptile show near you and picking one up there. You usually get a good buy, and can inspect the animal before buying.
