    Default Great Stuff foam question

I'm working on my 40 gallon vertical conversion and making the background using Great Stuff foam (pond and stone kind). Unfortunately, I pinched the sciatic nerve in my back and now can't lift or move the heavy tank. Is it possible to spray on the Great Stuff foam while the tank is in its upright position? The photo tutorials I've seen all have the tank laid on its back. Will the foam run down if I spray on a vertical surface?

I don't want to risk messing up the background, but it also could be several months before I'm able to move the tank again. Does anyone have experience using Great Stuff on a vertical surface or am I just going to have to keep my guys in their quarantine tanks until my back heals up?

Sadly, it will run. You may be able to get away with doing small patches, working from bottom to top, but it may take several applications. Patience would be key to doing it that way. Spray a bit, let it cure. Move up to the next spot and so on. It may hold better that way.

Thanks for the help, Bill. That's kind of what I expected (even though it's not was I was hoping for!)

I guess I'll have to hold off on finishing my build, or see if I can get someone to come over to move the tank for me. I don't want to risk messing up my tank.

    Cris,

You could cut a piece of Egg crate light defuser (cut it so it will fit against the back wall of the 40b Vert). Then lay that on a piece of carboard and foam onto it and build your background out of the tank. Once you have it foamed and covered than you can simply silicon it into the tank.

If you try it this way I would test fit it after the foam has cured to see if you need to trim it a little to help it fit.

I think I'll probably just resort to the tried and true method of bribing a friend to help. "Hey want to come over for some pizza and to move a frog tank?"

Yes Missoula is a pretty nice town.

The letters are basically just hiking destinations and local landmarks. The L on Mount Jumbo is for the Loyola school at the base of the mountain, and the M on Mount Sentinel is at the top of the short, popular "M trail" that starts behind the UM campus.

I hope you get the tank foamed and fixed up just how you like. I have to deal with chronic siatic pain down my left leg because of a spine injury at L5 S1 so if it weren't for my Hubby moving things and helping out we would never get our tank made. I am so glad I married a man who like little froggies as much as I do.
