    Default dart frog tank heating

What is the most common way to heat a live plant vivarium?

Ten gallon glass tank with a plexiglass top and small area cut out for screening and ventilation

For dart frogs, the more common worry is cooling rather than heating.
Darts prefer temps in the low 70s with drops into the high 60s at night.

You could use a heat mat, but I have heard that it can crack moist glass, which, in a dart viv, can be a problem
you could use a heat bulb or a ceramic heat emitter but then comes the humidity task and also the potential overheating.

The best thing to do in my opinion is to build your tank and monitor the temps. If you need to get something to keep temps up you will be able to do it before any frogs are put in

For the cool temps they would need, it'd be better just to heat the room to the correct temp.

It all depends on the species, which species are you planning on getting/have already?

And also, the frogs would really prefer more space, like a 20gallon high.

Low 80's would be death for most darts. Especially a sustained low 80's. I don't use any external heating for my dart tanks, I just keep my frog room at 72.

I only heat my frog room with extra gadgets in the winter In the summer I just let the ambient room temp heat them. Like others have said sustained low 80's will kill most darts. I had this happen this past winter lost a whole group of Mantella.

I'm not trying to hijack this post, but what are ways to cool a dart tank if your home's temps hover around the 80's during summer time?

Sorry for my absence! thank you for your replys.

In the summer my house sits around 18°c/ 65°f. I'll need heat. Lol. Since there's dirt substrate i can't exactly heat with a heat pad as i do with my snake

Think a che with thermostat would be okay?

Ah, then I see a ceramic hear emitter or a huge uth in your future

Oops i edited that post about the same time you replied. Lol . do you think a heatpad would penetrate through 4 or so inches of dirt and plants?

Well, you wouldn't put a uth under the substrate, it wouldn't be effective there. You would need to put it on the back or side of the tank. I'm not a big fan of those. I don't believe them to be as effective. But the other issue being is a Che won't work due to the glass on top of the Viv, sorry, had a brain fart there.
