Thread: Bombinas disturbed by filter's noises and vibrations ?

Question Bombinas disturbed by filter's noises and vibrations ?

    Hi everyone,

First, I apologize for my english level, I'm french native speaker.

I am starting a terrarium project for Bombinas and i'm grabbing informations about the required material.
Since my Terrarium will be filled with maximum 8-10 cm of water, i needed a filter which can fully work in such small volume.

I bought the "Eheim Mini Flat filter" this morning
I tested it, and it makes the noise of a standard aquarium filter.

My question is : Can the noise and vibrations of the filter cause troubles to the toads ? Or they don't care ?

I found no information about the possible disturbance of filters for the toads, I only found people worried about the noise of the toads themselves.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Cheers

Default Bombinas disturbed by filter's noises and vibrations ?

Hello and welcome to frog forum !

I have heard in the past that vibrations can be bothersome to fire bellies but I'm not 100% sure.

How strong is the current that the filter produces?

Here is a care article on fire bellies if you have not already seen it

ideally you should keep any filtration method to the exterior of the enclosure.
this helps with keeping maintenance more manageable without having to disturb the habitat plus it leaves more room in there too.
very simple to create a water feature too this way.

    Thanks for your answers.

Yes I read the article about Bombina care sheet

The water flow is not really strong, and you can modify the flow level on the side of the filter. I also have small pipes which allow to steer the released water in the direction i want.

Should I consider something similar to these mini canister filters ?

by all means use what you have now to the best abilities.
I use the right-hand canister(different brand/model tho) which suited me just fine and used with less depth of water you are proposing.

the uplift tube is placed front left side and you can place the outlet as a water feature or just out flowed back into the "pool"

How odd. Little noisemakers bothered by noise lmao.

Our planted 40g has 10 of the little buggers in there. We use a turtle type water filter with a flat rock propped against it( water noise drives my dogs insane lol). Our little stinkers always climb up and play on their uh..."waterslide". Its all too frickin cute.

Perhaps being bothered by water noise stems back to how they were raised as tads? Or younglings? Ya know, the breeder had no pump/filter?

I have not yet the toads. I am preparing the terrarium and I try to give them the best environment. I have several aquariums already, so buying one more filter is not a problem, as the other one can easily be used for an hospital tank or to replace one in any other tank

Having vibrations and filtration noises all the time is not exactly natural for amphibians, that's why i was worried about this.
