I woke up like an hour before my alarm was supposed to go off today. The first thing I do in the morning is check on my toad, Rosie. Today I found her with a prolapse coming out of her backside. I've never had this happen with a toad before and I don't know what to do. I cleaned her as much as I could and put her in a quarantine tank with a sugar water bath.
I'm freaking out right now I can't take her to the vet because I have mandatory classes today including an important project critique. What do I do? Is this possible to be fixed on its own? Should I take the grade hit and try and find an amphibian vet? How can I help her?
I read the most common cause of this is feeding them the wrong thing. I feed her solely crickets and she's never had this happen in the year and a half I've had her. I don't know what caused it.
I have read in some cases the prolapse will retract on its own with a sugar bath. I've also read that one your frog/toad prolapses that they are at higher risk for it happening again. What i personally would do is see if it's the same when u get home. If it is then I would take her the vet where they could get it to reverse and they can put a stitch in to help prevent it from happening again. I don't know what causes it. Maybe the vet or another member could help better answer that.

If the prolapse is bad you can sprinkle sugar directly on it. If you've only fed crickets, it may be that the crickets were too big. If they weren't, the prolapse could be the result of parasites or a bacterial infection. If the prolapse doesn't retract or happens again, you will definitely need to visit a vet. You can send stool in to get tested for parasites, but a vet may need to put a stitch in to hold everything in place. I'm sorry your frog isn't feeling well

I have an appointment with a vet tomorrow. They wanted me to bring her in emergency tonight but I really can't afford the emergency fee. She's retracted all but the very end of it back inside. She's bleeding a really tiny bit.
