I bought a $9 digital temperature and humidity gauge at Walmart for the pacman frog I'm going to be getting. I put it in my hermit crab tank and it broke within a few days(I'm assuming from the high humidity).
what kind of gauge am I supposed to be getting?
it shoudnt have broke...maybe u just got a bad one...i would return it for a new one and try it again
I bought a new one before it broke, but I'm afraid if the new one breaks I won't be able to return it.
The humidity was stuck at 99% and the temperature said -9 degrees
It may be a very poorly made unit that is designed simply for measuring how things are in your house. Your terrarium should be fairly high in humidity which could cause problems, or water from misting could have gotten into the electronics. I would recommend a hygrotherm which could control a fogger or mister and your heat source without having to worry too much, but the price is much higher.
Laylicorn?! You're literally the first person I've seen on this site from hermitcrabassociation. Sorry to digress, but wow. Hermit crabs and frogs are the best

(If you didn't get the same at walmart) Try the ZooMed's Digital Thermometer, here's a link Digital Thermometer and for the humidity, get a ZooMed brand Hydrometer! Good Luck!
