Arrow Live sphagnum moss dangerous to which amphibians?

    Hello,

I'd like to know if live sphagnum moss (green, actively growing and placed in a floating "blonde peat" island inside a pond or terrarium) would be dangerous to any amphibians occurring in the mediterranean area, as any of the following:

    Bombina variegata
    Bufo bufo
    Hyla arborea
    Rana temporaria
    Salamandra salamandra
    Triturus cristatus

    Thank you very much

Provided the moss was grown in a pesticide free environment, yes, it is safe.

Thanks for your reply. I was concerned about its acidity...don't know about live sphagnum moss (though I think I've read it exchanges H+ with cations) but the "blond sphagnum" (partially decomposed) it's growing on has a pH of 3.5

I am unsure about the frogs but, I personally wouldn't use it with the Triturus cristatus if it's pH is even slightly acidic
