Right now my American toad is eating only meal worms from Petco. In the summer time, we catch worms, flies, rollie pollies, and other insects for him, but it is currently winter. He is doing fine, but I was wondering, should I feed him other things? Preferably stuff I can find at Petco.
Other random question: what type of light bulb should I use, keeping in mind he is inside all day
Stop the meal worms and go with Canadian night crawlers (you can get these at Wal Mart in the sporting dept), crickets (Pet Supplies plus since they now carry the banned crickets) or my personal favorite, red runner roaches(Feeder Source or NightGlow Feeders). For treats I use butter or wax worms. Meal worms have a very hard shell on them and can cause impaction so use them sparingly.
