I read online that they can be affected by their own toxin if you don't change the water enough but only one source said that so IDK if it's true.
More likely its the build up of ammonia and other stuff that kills them when you don't change the water often enough.
i keep 4 in a mostly aquatic setup the only issue i find that affects them is water quality not their own toxins. trying to mix other species will kill the other species but not fbt's. ammonia and chlorine or chloramanes are the 3 killers of any frog species and will kill fbt's quicker then diseases i change their water every 4 months in a living terrarium
I have 10 in a planted 40g. No toxin issues. Just lots of poo poohs. Water changes are a must even for us with planted tanks. Ammonia levels can run rampant quickly. Having a carbon based filter system helps, but its just a heavy debris filter for the most part.
