Hi. I have some white mold or fungus growing on the moss in my tank. It hasn't spread very far, and none of my frogs seem to be affected by it. Is it safe, or should I remove it?
No frogs currently!
Is this a new vivarium/terrarium? Mold and fungus in the early stages especially is normal. I don't know if you introduced any micro fauna like Springtails, but they act sort of like a janitor crew and they will eat the mold and keep your vivarium nice and healthy.
BTW, I see your on Long Island. We have a showroom in Floral Park, NY full of display vivariums, planted vivariums for sale, supplies, plants, springtails and more if you would ever like to visit. Just let us know. You can also reach us at info@vivariumsinthemist.com
No, it's about a year old. I've never had mold before now. I don't have springtails because there's no dirt in my tank.

Hmm, do you have a picture?
it is probably from lack of air movement in the tank. you could remove it, add microfauna, or open the tank for a while each day to allow air transfer. longer than you normally would. an air circulation fan in the tank would also be effective, but a bit more complex than the other options.

The tank has a screen top. Could air circulation still be a problem? I'll get a picture tonight.

Hmmm, with a screen top, it shouldn't be an air flow issue. Perplexing. A pic would be helpful

Can anybody identify the mold or tell me if it's dangerous?
