Default Dart Frog Start up! New to darts!

Hello. Recently, I've been very interested in Dart Frogs and am willing to take on the challenge of creating a cool vivarium to house a couple! To start off, I know not to mix species and I'm lucky enough to live relatively close to many vendors and reptile and amphibian shops! I already have a nice 18x18x24 Exo Terra tank that I have previously used to house different types of small geckos and frogs in the past. I know to clean them out thoroughly, but all tips are welcomed as I'm still a novice to Dart Frogs.

First off, what species would be recommended for starting out? A friend of mine told me told me the green and black ones are fairly easy to maintain and that he has had 2 for a couple years now. Also, what type of lighting would be recommended? Would I need one of those fancy humidifiers that many vendors at reptile shows say are very useful? I also wanted to keep 2 frogs. I've heard that is about the max you want for an 18x18x24 tank. I've watched a few nice youtube videos and guides on setting up vivariums and have a decent list of supplies needed. I'm very interested in building a waterfall, but obviously I want to make sure it is safe for the frogs and nothing can happen with them climbing in it or anything. Live plants or fake plants?

Lastly, I'll be attending the Reptile Expo in White Plains, NY on February 8th. What types of questions should I ask a vendor there?

Any answers really help and are greatly appreciated!!

    Hi, welcome to the forum.

We specialize in building vivarium displays and have a small showroom stocked with supplies and vivarium specialty items. If you are ever in the area (Floral Park, NY), feel free to visit. Our email is info@vivariumsinthemist.com

We will be a vendor at the Feb 8th show, make sure you stop by and say hi. We will have planted vivariums for sale at the show if you want to check them out.

Water features can be tricky, we have a few on display in our showroom including our 210 gallon display which you might find interesting.
Oh and definitely live plants for darts!!

Awesome stuff. Will defiantly stop by while at the show at some point. You have some truly beautiful vivariums! I haven't been to the show in over a couple years now, but do you know the standard prices of adult dart frogs? Preferably the easier kinds for beginners like myself. Colors don't matter too much to me as they're all very beautiful.

Sounds good. You should find plenty of options at the show as far as darts.

You should be able to find Leucs (great starter frog and beautiful) for about $35 ea.
