So I've been using this dechlorinator to water my plants and most my viv and just read it has aloe Vera in...is this dangerous to darts? They're going in the tank tomorrow so it's a bit late to ask but I just found out! I could get another dechlorinator and remove the water from the bottom of the tank if it is.
Good Morning,
I'm afraid I can't specifically comment on the product w/ out the name of the product.
As to the aloe vera? Personally, I do not know. It's likely the 'toxin' is removed in the product's manufacturing?
Perhaps another member knows?
I believe ... when we questions the safety of a product .... go with your gut.
Air on the side of caution if you can not find a definitive answer. How could it hurt
Here's my 2 cents. ( with respect to dart frogs )
1) use an "amphibian safe product" ...........for amphibians
ie Aquatize made by Exo terra
2) I use distilled water in all my PDF enclosures ----daily misting / film canisters/ water dishes (ie a petri dishes ) and tadpole rearing
3) if a larger amount of water is needed for adding water to an enclosure for example, and I don't want to waste my distilled , I de-chlorinate w Aquatize
I would suggest calling the company and asking them if their product is 'safe for amphibians and/ or for dart frogs'
IMO I would not use a product that has not specifically tested w PDFs. We spend hours and hours taking care of our frogs !!! I'm a skeptic
If there is any doubt with the product you used , simply spray down the interior of the enclosure will distilled water.

The product is kingfish aquasafe, the aloe Vera is supposed to be a 'protective coat' for fish...I bought it from Amazon because one of the reviews said he used it for his frogs (didn't specify what kind tho). And was told if it's safe for fish it's safe for frogs elsewhere, but I have worries of this 'coat' preventing the frogs from properly absorbing water through their skin.
Also the Aquatize from exo terra says it uses 'plant extracts' to form a protective coat, would I be incorrect to assume that that is aloe Vera also? Or at least something similar, since the intentions appear to be the same.
Hello,
I don't assume anything
However, I'm sure you're right.
They are likely all the same?
I can't find an ingredient list.

I got some new water conditioner today just to be in the safe side, along with the frogs!
Good that you got some new stuff. I don't use any dechlorinators that contain that slime coat stuff. Not even in my aquariums. We all have our "go to" dechlorinators. Personally, the only thing I use is seachem's prime in both my frog tanks and my aquariums. But if you talk to 10 people on here, you'll get 10 different answers.
Lynn, was correct, never assume and go with your gut.
