Default Do I need a thermostat dimmer?

    Hello FF!

I'm a total newbie and am slowly collecting the pieces to build my very first frog vivarium. I have just ordered today, a Exo Terra 90x45x90. I also got ahead of myself and purchased a thermostat dimmer as it was a really good price. I was talking with a friend and she listed a few items I would need to set up the tank, and I have started reading through the numerous threads, and am getting overwelbed with all the different options you can go with.

I am hoping to put 3 green tree frogs (Dumpy's probably) to hopefully bread (yes, jumping in the deep end here!). I would love to set up a water feature.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am really enjoying this site - I am learning so much already

    Kyrie

what would you like suggestions on? if you could be a bit more specific, it would be very helpful. do keep in mind that breeding dumpy's will require a second enclosure, set up as a rain chamber, a large scale tadpole/froglet rearing station (they will lay about 200 eggs or so) and a LOT of work. of course, that's about 3 years down the line, assuming you start with juveniles.

I don't think you need a thermostat unless you are using a ceramic heat emitter or heat pad as they can get very hot.

Oh boy, the post was very vague wasn't it, and my spelling mistakes!! Can you tell I wrote it late at night?? Haha!

I have been researching the cycling procedures in order to breed dumpy's. Some people have suggested installing a mister into the usual enclosure and cycle the temperatures. Is this correct and will this be successful? I have been planning on getting juveniles

Sorry, back the the enclosure thread topics...
What I was meant to ask, was what sort of heating, lighting, and thermostat setup would I need for green tree frogs. I was thinking of setting up a canopy on the top of the enclosure, a 'pond-like' feature in the middle (with perhaps a heater in the water?) and raised beds on each side. I would like to put live plants in there at some point, and have read that the ceramic heat emitter would be beneficial (as Frogfeet suggested) But being a 90cm long enclosure, how would I heat the enclosure? Was I a bit premature in buying the dimming thermostat? I guess my thinking behind it was having more control over the temperature in the enclosure.

sorry, i missed this. i have never bred white's. but, that's me, i don't breed any of my frogs. i'm just not interested in it. but one of our member's, Poison, has successfully bred them. there may be a thread on here about it.

depending on how you build your floor, you could use an aquarium heater under a false bottom. and you can put the heater on a timer, set to go off at night, allowing the tank to cool. ya know, almost like nature if you are doing a shallow water feature in a drainage layer type tank, with leca at the bottom, then the che would be the best bet. more control over temp is definitely not a bad thing.

Thanks Bill! I really appreciate the info.. I've just finished reading some of the other members tank builds and it has really helped me with what I can do with my tank (when it arrives)

    Cheers!
