I just bought some nightcrawlers from Petsmart two days ago. I opened the container today to feed and there were mites running along the rim of the container. Is this a common occurrence or is it evidence that I have mites in my tank/substrate? I pulled my frog and put him in a critter keeper and I don't see any mites on him or in the tank. Should I clean his tank anyways?
I have never seen any mites in nightcrawlers containers, ever. But coming from petco/petsmarts guess anything is possible.
Wash then worms and put them in clean soil, different container.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
I buy some from petsmart every once in awhile and have never got mites but I do agree with Lija that nothing surprises me anymore with big chain companies. I get mine from the baitshop, and I wash off all my worms no matter were they come from. Better to be safe then sorry.

Thanks for the replies. I called my vet and she suggested that I soak my Pacman in several different containers, remove his substrate, toss/bake my half log, and put Jabba on wet paper towels for 2 days. I returned the nightcrawlers to Petsmart and purchased them elsewhere.
Now that I'm finished with all of that, I can get my drink on. Happy New Year everyone!
