I have a couple Albino Clawed Frogs which was called Tutti Frutti Frogs because they was unfortunately dyed.Yes it`s wrong to dye frogs & fish, But it does not mean it`s wrong to care for them. She was a baby & bright green when I first got her. Now at 6 mo. old she is growing out of the color possibly? Or is this color a bacteria infection or something that will grow on her? Thank You
The dyed color won't be permanent from what I understand. I've never had one so I can't say how long it normally lasts. Is the frog acting normally?
The dye fades out as frog grows. The issue is the dye procedure is dangerous to frogs and causes fatalities. Purchasing those frogs creates demand and guess what? More frogs are dyed to replace those people buy .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Do you know off hand what illness the frogs can get from the dye?
Frogs are soaked in a caustic solution to "etch" their skin (ouch) and then dipped in dyes . Some do not survive the process trauma and die soon after, while others develop skin infections from it. Same as other animals; their liver will try to process out any chemicals it encounters and if it can't; will hold it until it suffers from them too .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
