    Default Where to measure humidity?

I posted this question over in the terrarium forum but got no responses. Here's my question:

Hello all, I have a baby pixie frog in a 20 gallon glass tank with about 4-5" of coconut fibre substrate. I was wondering the correct location to take the humidity reading? I'm using a Zilla thermometer/ hygrometer and the probe is about an inch above the substrate. The humidity seems to increase and decrease quickly even though the substrate seems to remain moist. Is there a hygrometer that can be buried in the substrate? Is that level or the air humidity level more important? Thanks in advance!

Why would you want to bury the probe. Any buried probe will read a constant 100% which presents a problem because you need to measure ambient air humidity. Probe should be located 2" above the substrate in the center of the tank unless you have two probes for humidity then you can measure the warm side and cool side.

Ok. That makes sense. Just making sure I had it set up right. I'm used to bearded dragons so I usually don't want any humidity!

Also; avoid misting hits probes. They will give false readings if wet .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
