Default Concerned about one of my frogs.

Hi all, I'm after a bit of advise really.

One of my frogs has been acting different to usual. About a mont ago I put an exo terra waterfall in the tank, and both frogs loved it, they would bask there all day!

Now recently, the tank is looking a bit more bare than normal, as I use a lot of live plants and a few of them have died off recently. My one frog keeps hiding away. As soon as I open the tank he immediately hides behind the waterfall. Then the other day he went missing, and I thought, maybe he's hiding inside the waterfall and I found him in the water, which was quite deep, looking as though there was a struggle. I pulled him out then he threw himself to the ground and just laid there.... I was scared that he was dead or something, I scooped him up and then he started breathing... And now he'll do anything to hide away under there. I put him on the plant up by the basking light where my other frog pretty much lives. But for some reason he always heads back to the waterfall.... I really don't know what to do. I took him out and had a look over the best I could, I couldn't see signs of illness. I'm thinking he may be stressed because of the lack of privacy in the tank now, but my other frog is happy as larry in there. :/

Here are current pictures of my frogs. The one on the leaf is Hiccup, normal happy chappy, and the one basking is Houston.

Maybe the frogs just want to hide in separate places. I'd put another plant or hide in and see if the frog wants to try that instead. Or maybe he just wants to soak. That can be a sign of illness sometimes, so I'd continue to keep an eye on his health, even moving him to a quarantine tank with paper towels if you notice any symptom.

I agree with Elly on that. My frogs seem to spend quite a bit of time soaking in their dish before or during a shed. Have you seen your frog shedding lately?

Why don't you copy/paste this questionnaire and fill it out for us That way we can get a good idea of what's going on within the enclosure and with the frog that might be causing strange behavior. Also, covering 3 sides of the tank may make him more comfortable and stop trying to hide in strange places.

    QUESTIONS

1----what 'kind' of frog is it ( what species)
2----please include a photo of the frog
3----Please include a photo of the frog's current enclosure
    4----size of enclosure ( W" x D" x H" )
5----# on inhabitants - ( if there is another frog --- is there a size difference ? )
6----has or was the frog kept with a different species or with any other tank mate
7----is there a new tank mate----was the new tank mate quarantined
8----what is the typical humidity level
    9----what temperature is maintained
10---what is, specifically, being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure
11---describe the enclosure lighting ( very specifically)
12---describe enclosure maintenance ( water changes, cleaning etc)
13---what kind of water is used
    -----for misting

-----is de-chlorinator used / what brand
14---material(s) used for substrate - be very specific

My one frog, Betty, loves to sit in her water dish with a cave over top. One time she squeezed into the water dish and almost drowned. If your frog is going behind the background, move him to a different place. Your frog should be fine, but I suggest setting up a shallow water dish and placing a hide on top.

Yes Betty did the exact same thing. She just wanted a place to hide and more humidity. I put a log in there and sprayed it, she's never done that again.
