I have been researching different arboreal pets and I am not having luck figuring out the best for me. There are just SO many options. I am in no rush but the sooner I find something I like the sooner I can get to in depth research ( I research all species but potential pets I read every care sheet possible.)
I am looking for something arboreal that can happily live its life ( or at least several years) in a 12x12x18 terrarium, I would like something that enjoys a lush tropical looking decor but is not overly sensitive. Also something that is ok with a variety of temperatures would be great ( though I am more than willing to stick a heat pad to the back of the terrarium to bring it to mid 70's as a consistent temp)
Activity level isnt very important to me but something not overly demanding is a must. I know all pets will need supplements, calcium, misting, live food as well as daily monitoring of temps and humidity, I can handle that.
Sorry if I am rambling. It just seems the more I research the more pops up and it seems to be time to call on owners and their experiences.

Check it out with someone that knows about lizards first, do some googling, but it seems like a single green anole might just fit. (Something I read says they need 10 gallons, but I haven't looked into that extensively.) Maybe some other kind of small lizard would work, but make sure it's one that stays small.
I kind of steered away from lizards due to most needing UVB. However I did also post on my gecko forum.
I read that green tree frogs and whites would be potential candidates as well as greys ( though I unfortunately can not have greys here due to the DNR)

I don't know about greens, but white's will probably get too big. The thing about climbing frogs is they need room to jump otherwise they start trying to escape and get nose rub or something. That's why they recommend putting one White's in at least a 20 gallon, even though you can get another frog and keep them both in that space.
There may be some interesting climbing insects like preying mantises that work well in the small space.
See So many caresheets say different things. I would love to have a bigger terrarium .... but space is limited.

I know, but at least with the White's frogs I'm going to say larger (taller at least) is probably better. Those frogs can get big.
Edit: Not having space is a pain, I know.

Department of natural resources, They are native to my state so they are illegal to keep here without a permit. Because I would LOVE to have one.
whites are adorable but for me that of course comes in second.

Ahhhh, yeah. For us it's the Dept of Fish and Wildlife... we're not allowed to keep our state's native frogs for pets either, OR Grays or American greens, BUT they allow Cuban tree frogs here, a big invasive species which lives in the same area as Grays and Am. Greens and EATS them! *shakes head* Makes no sense at all, I would love to have Grays too!
I would recommend Milk frogs as a possibility but they can get big too, particularly the females!

I think a pack man frog will fit your bill.
The babies only need a critter carrier for the first 7 or so months and then a 12X12X 18 is more than big enough for them.
Just need to keep 80 to 84F during the day and 74 to 76F at night and if you get a albino no lights needed just ambient room light is
good.
No UV light needed as they stay buried most of the time.
just feed crickets and night crawler pieces with a dusting schedule ( one of the mods has a great schedule) I am sure one of them will post a link.
The babies need feeding daily until they get about 2 in STV then you can feed every other day and the older adults 2 years and older can go longer
2 days or so. And don't be surprised if they don't eat for a week every so often.
My Pepito will be 3 years old this may. and I love him to pieces. He is my avatar pic.
enjoying a monthly treat of a jumper mouse.
What Size tank should I look at? I do have a 10 gallon on hand easily converted to be vertical.
pac mans are something I have been debating but they really arent arboreal. Can I still get plants and plant it like I would for a tree frog? the tanks I see are usually plain. I have done all the care research.
My state really doesn't enforce its laws as far as wildlife but much better safe than sorry.

Packys aren't exactly arboreal however... lol

With all frogs you need to keep temps and humidity spot on, there are not many frogs other then pac that can live happily in a tank of that size.
Based your criteria, I suggest e. AgricoLae, bayeri chamelion gecko. Absolutely adorable, you can handle, actually they will be hugging you, they are little tree/branch/finger huggers. Food - any complete fruit based diet, Repashy, pangea with occasional cricket. Room temp, can handle wide spread of temps.
downside though, they are on expensive side, and you can't keep two boys together.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
I can't even find a place that offers them for sale. lol.
You may be right that I should just go for a pac man. I already have a 10 gallon. Though I have always seen bare habitats ... Can I make it more lush looking and still have a happy frog?
I will closely monitor everything I knew that would come with anything I chose.
If I ever did get a terrarium upgrade what size would you recommend for a pacman? ( actual terrarium, if I only upgrade to another tank it will be a 20 long)

LOL Sounds like it. I think I may go with something easier to acquire for now.
