    Default killer paludarium. literally.

Sorry for posting in 2 spots (also in fire bellied toad section)

Please, please see that section titled help for full details, trying to reach out to more people. I spent a month building this paludarium and it has killed 3 out of my 4 frogs in 2 days. What have I done wrong!! My heart is broken! I did painstaking research and thought this was going to be amazing.

    Materials:
    Great foam
    100% silicone
    Eco earth
    Slate rock
Various plants, one of these must have done it. Even though the store said they were safe!!
    Water plants (grasses)
    Krylon fushion paint (cured)
Cement foam hand made rock(cured and rinsed for days)
    Flourite substrate
Fluval root stuff for the plants

    Please help.

Probably the slate rock. I lost all my fish hours after I put slate in. Where did you buy it and how did you treat it?

Neither slate nor fluorite are poisonous. It was most likely the lack of curing from the cement.

The cement was cured for almost 4 weeks before I started the rinsing process. The internet lead me astray. I don't know how people are successful with cement backgrounds. Everyone please be aware this killed my babies in 2 days! 4 year old toadied in 2 days!!!! Lesson learned my friends, lesson learned. I ripped the platform out of the tank and will be rebuilding with foam and pond paint again... Grrr.

Well I bought slate from home depot and soaked it overnight and it killed all my fish. Did I do something wrong?

No clue. Slate is an inert rock. It won't affect water chemistry or leech anything into the water column. Maybe there was something on it that you may have missed?

Mother of #-#&$. So my last toad was fine.. Then my dumba$$ self tried to keep my 50$ of live plants alive. I rinsed the flourite a wholewack load of times and rinsed the plants. Yup, in a matter of hours my last one is now in toady heaven in the hospital tank. I quit. Just going to capture the last crickets in the tank and flush them away. No way will I put those into another tank!
