Thread: Temps?

    Default Temps?

Hey guys. I've been looking into pacman frogs, and I have a question about the temps. The care sheet on this site says that they should be kept at 80-85 during the day and lower at night, but the breeder joshsfrogs.com says the following: "It is widely circulated that Pac-Man frogs need temperatures in the 75 to 85 degree Fahrenheit range. While this is true of their natural environment, Pac-Man frogs spend the majority of their time buried in the cool ground. In captive environments the substrate doesn’t provide the same protection due to lack of depth and the ability for air to move under the tank. Therefore, normal room temperatures of 65 to 85 degrees are recommended."

Which of these is correct? If they do require extra heating I'm going to opt out of getting one, as I'd rather just get another snake if I had to dish out the money for a thermostat.

Welcome to the forum Its true that Pacman frogs in some regions experience colder temps than what we provide in the terrarium. They Can tolerate lower temperatures but its pest to keep them above 70 degrees at the absolute lowest. They will truly thrive when given temperatures around 80-82F. I'd maybe talk to Josh Brinks at Josh's frogs and other FF moderators.

Welcome to forum! I would talk to someone who keeps pacmans, but they do need more heat than normal room temperature, and a temperature drop at night.

Thanks! I'll see if I can ask around. I usually keep my place around 72-74, but I wouldn't want any of my pets to be uncomfortable. If people don't think that would work I'll put off getting one when/if I get a reptile room set up

68° is too low unless the frog is aestivating. Extended periods of that temp will cause reduced to no appetite and possible lymph heart damage.
