What heat mats do you use? (wattage etc)
i have a Habistat Twin stat set at 30 degrees with 2 large Exo Terra rainforest heat mats but the temperature isn't going more than 25 degrees mostly sitting at 24 degrees.
i didn't have a problem before because the tank they used to be in had 2 large exo terra desert ones because it was the old Gecko tank and wasn't as high by 45cm.
thanks
It may be because the soil hasn't heated up yet & the heating isn't on in the house yet, even thou room temperature is about 17.5-19 degrees. It's weird the newt tank I have doesn't go under 24 degrees & doesn't have heat mats but the frog tank doesn't go over 25 & has 2 heat mats.
Maybe my combometer are faulty!
Not sure what to say. You might have to resort to a heat lamp.
Don't worry, I'll have it solved I bought a new heat mat, thermostat & combometers. 1 of them will fix the problem.
I also bought a few books so I don't need to ask anymore questions.
A ceramic heat emitter may be the best way to go. That's what I use now and it is much more effective than heat mats.
Don't worry about asking questions, we are happy to help. Surely, any question you have, someone else has or will have, when you get your answer, other people also get an answer
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
Thanks I've looked into the Ceramic heater, and i'll probably buy one of those as well as or instead of the mats. Depending on how well it works.
I have managed to get the heat right up because of the new heat mat, I wish i didn't panic buy the other Thermostat and Combometer, but it will all come in handy very shortly.
I should also remember to take notice of the dimensions of things, the heat mat I've just put on the back (replacing the exo terra rainforest large one) is massive. Luckily its got a bit of space for the very top and very bottom. It's 35 watt, and the Exo Terra one was 12 watts. I tried lifting the tank and swapping the ground heat mat too, but i'll have to wait till I empty the whole thing again as I wasn't overly happy with the position i had to put myself in, the dog had other ideas and i had visions of the whole thing landing on me or her or smashing in half.
Glad you found a good heat mat. (one thing, maybe with a higher watt heat mat it might be a good idea to mist away from that side if you need to mist. Or use warm water. I'd be scared of cracking the glass.)
