My AFC is 2 years old and is named Pinky Parrot (my daughter named him). His water is changed regularly, has a Whisper filter, inner tank heater, and 2 ceramic mugs to "hide" in (one happens to be a TARDIS). He's had minor health problems in that time, but nothing a water change and 3 days of antibiotics wouldn't cure (a few skin irritations, either red spots or brown spots). He's sheds regularly and is normally fairly active.
He hasn't eaten in 4 days. He hasn't had a bowl movement in 4 days. He isn't feisty or active or ANYTHING close to his typical behavior. He's not touching his frozen blood worms or his pellet food (neither are allowed to sit and rot, they are removed within a couple hours).
This little frog has edged his way into being a member of the family. No joke. Never thought that would happen. Can anyone out there offer any suggestions?
Remove the heater! Xenopus should NOT be kept above 76 degrees for extended periods of time, as it will make them susceptible to bacterial infections. There is a lot of misinformation about water temperature for these frogs. They are best kept between 66- 76 degrees. This is how I lost my xenopus because I was not aware of this problem until it was too late.
