I naturally got some springtails in the substrate that I use for my White's, I only noticed when they congregated in the water yet again, but there's definitely not enough there to populate the whole viv because it's a huge one.
If I collect the ones from the water how do I then cultivate them?
ya know what you probably don't have to they reproduce at a rapid rate .
I agree with Randy, they will populate themselves. I only start with a small amount in mine and they are always booming within a couple of months. The only time you usually need to add more is if you have a frog that will eat them...whites will not.
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
You could always start yourself a master culture in case if your frog bug decides to grow....
The best way to do it is: Get a small tub, activated charcoal/carbon or ABG, springtail food, and add some water and voila! You got yourself a starter culture.
