So i got these for great prices! 30p for the bamboo like plants and £3 for the beker plant. Is the beker plant ok with frogs?i bought it because crickets sometimes escape from the frogs and ive seen so bites out of my plants in the viv, which the cruckets have been eating! I bought this to combat the crickets. Also can anyone identify the bamboo please? I know the tall one is lucky bambo but dont know what the others are. Also, is it ok if it cut some of the lucky bamboo off as its waaay too big for my viv lol. Cheers for helping,Name: image.jpg

Hey Tom. The sarracenia pitcher will eventually grow rather large, but that could take a few years. They are safe with your frogs (carnivorous plants do NOT eat frogs), the middle, as you know is lucky bamboo (not really a bamboo, but a dracaena species) and the other two are a dracaena species as well. You can trim those to the height you want and replant the TOPS. They will root and grow. You can also replant the lower sections, if you so choose. They may grow new sprouts.

Cheers Bill , unfortunately i wont have my viv (probably) in a few years due to university or college . Glad to hear the pitcher plant doesnt eat frogs XD. also would i need to bleach them? Surely the pitcher plant wouldnt have pesticudes as it eats bugs. Also can the three 'bamboo' species be planted in water? Again, thanks for helping . These plants are the final few steps to finishing my viv. May add some moss once most of the leaves have decomposed

I definitely would not bleach the pitcher. The other's I would just run under cold running water, then trim and plant. All three can be planted in the water.

In response to the pm though, I am not 100% sure if the crickets will even enter the pitcher, so you may need to have a backup plan. Fertilizer pellets work wonders for carnivores since they do not absorb nutrients like normal plants. They get all their nutrition from the poor insects who fall into the plant and get dissolved. 1 pellet/month will suffice. Keep in mind that sarracenia are bog plants, they like moist soil, but not soaking wet.

How do you know all this?! I can put it next to my fittonia as they like wet-ish conditions. Im going to remove the fern and brom in my tank as they just arent doing so well in the conditions the fbts need, fittonias doing great . Now im gonna look for some replacements for the fern and brom. Also, i will feed the pitcher crickets that get too large for the frogs (some of mine are like 3-4 cm long, waay to big for fbts). Infact i did this earlier and the cricket is currently being digested, lovely stuff XD

Everything that flows from my thumb tips is based on years upon years of growing plants. Doing research, making mistakes, perfecting the craft. You'll get there, it just takes a lot of practice and a LOT of failure. Lol

Yeh, ive got used to the failure portion a bit, brom is probably dying and ive got a dead fern! Then again they arent really suited to the conditions of the viv theyre in so it doesnt really surprise me lol

Don't go getting down on the fern yet. They often die off and come back a while later. They need to adjust from being in a moderately humid environment, to a high humidity environment. Sometimes it takes a month or two.

Really? Thats pretty cool. I hope it regrows as it looked really nice when it was actually 'alive'. Definitely replacing the brom, it looks really out of place in the viv. Then again, so would a pitcher plant XD

Also do you have any ideas on how to boost humidity in the viv? I mist it 3 times a day and it gets quite condensationy (not a real word lol) on the glass but about half an hour later that goes. Is this normal?
