I have just started to get into breeding frog and I was thinking what if i got a Borealis and a laevis to create a larger and also have a interesting pattern. Is this possible.
Apparently it is possible to cross breed these two species, although i have kept a female Borealis with my two leavis males for over 3 years and despite them mating constantly, no eggs yet :/
There is a fertilization block between borealis and laevis. There are two mating possibilities:
Female borealis x Male laevis ---> NO
Male borealis x Female laevis ---> YES
The evidence suggests that laevis sperm cannot penetrate the innermost jelly layer of borealis eggs.
