Guys.
I feel awful.
My tiny baby wood frog froglet died. I have no clue what happened. He has no wounds on him at all, but his mouth was open and looked like he swallowed something or something like that. I feel absolutely terrible, he was so tiny. He was only like 4 days old. ughhh
Here is a pic of him when he was still alive.
I'm so , so sorry That's sad.

Sorry for your loss. He was adorable, r.i.p. little guy
So sorry for your loss what food items was he/she eating? if its not food related, it may have been a bacterial or fungal infection.

He was temporarily in a 1 gallon (he transformed unexpectedly, because all the other tadpoles barely have back legs) that was all water with a reptile food dish filled with sand in the middle as land. the water was maybe 3/4 of an inch deep, and there were fake leaves laying in the water he liked to sit on rather than the land area because he could keep moist. I don't know the temp/ humidity, but this frog, where I live, in the wild, would be dealing with waters and temps that aren't very hot (I live in Wisconsin). He was in the tank by himself. The water is fresh, clean well water, the same I use for all my fish tanks (we don't get city water at my house, we have our own underground well thingy) He hadn't eaten anything because he still had his tail, and wouldn't eat because it was still absorbing and what not. I dont know if there was any poop I didn't check before I cleaned the tank out just now, so I can't get a pic either sorry. The frog is... I guess captive bred because the eggs were hatched in my science class, and the teacher wanted to get rid of some of the extra tadpoles and let me take them home. The frog was only ever handled by me once, yesterday, to take a pic of him on my finger as a size comparison. He was never disturbed otherwise. Low traffic area. I hadn't changed/cleaned it because he was only in there for about 3 days. It was clean though. Do you think he maybe swallowed some of the sand in the land dish?
Myself don't think froglet swallowed sand. For most babies we recommend damp unprinted paper towels as substrate; but obviously with aquatic/semi-aquatic species we can forego that. If tail not resorbed into body; then nothing was eaten that could hurt it. And if water was available, it did not dry up.
Do you have a water analysis report on your well? Maybe you still want to use Seachem Prime on it to counteract any possible metals in it? Again, sorry for the little one, was so cute .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
The tadpoles are alive and well in the tank, as are all of my other fish in aquariums. I've never had any problems with the water quality. We get good, fresh, water here and use it to fill up our pond which is often home to wild frogs and toads, along with eggs and tadpoles/froglets who all survive and do fine in our water. I don't know :/ but he died with his mouth open, and I might have just been imagining it but his head and throat kinda seemed larger. I tried to open his mouth a bit but it was too hard to tell because hes so tiny.
