Default My repurposed enclosure for a White's Tree Frog

I was given a non working popcorn machine over a year ago. I always planned on using it for something unique and I finally did. I removed the kettle and other parts that weren't necessary, which was pretty much every thing except the warming light. Then, cleaned it really well. Next, I took one of those plastic political election signs that go in your yard, and cut it to size to line the bottom of it. I then added coconut substrate, a couple of limbs and some artificial plants. It measures 19"W X 13"L X 24" H which is equivalent to about 25.6 gallons. He seems to like it and has a lot of vertical climbing room.

Cool idea, but my only concern would be how well it ventilates.

Also, as I look on the pictures on the computer, do you have something to block the heat lamp so your froggy doesn't jump on the metal guard around it? I foresee some serious burns otherwise.

I hadn't looked at the pics all that well. Initially, I thought it was a neat concept because I thought it was converted. But looking at the pics, I would recommend taking the frog out of there ASAP and actually modding the unit for the animal. an interior heat lamp? Bad, bad, bad. Little or no ventilation? Bad bad bad.

Great concept, it just needs to be rethought and reworked is all.

If you could figure out a way to remove the top and replace it with screening or plexiglass with holes drilled into it, you would have an easy solution. That would also mean taking out the light and putting some type of lighting on top, which is much safer than inside the tank. It really is an awesome idea, do not get discouraged!

Does anybody have a suggestion for heating if I can't have a light in the enclosure?

You can use a heating pad or a light above the tank.

I really can't put a light above it, because the top is solid stainless steel.

Would it work to put screen around the bulb to keep my frog from coming in contact with the bulb?

As far as ventilation 3 sides are glass and the side with the doors is made out of plexiglass. I was thinking of drilling a series of holes in the plexiglass for ventilation.

Even if the top is stainless, if it went into the unit, it can come out. It will probably just take some ingenuity and creativity to add in plexi or glass on top.

Just drilling air holes is not necessarily ventilation. Air holes are doing just that, allowing air in. Ventilation allows air to move. Usually through the lid, since hot air rises. As the hot air rises, it allows fresh air to enter the enclosure, thus, ventilation, or air circulation

I am planning to install a small fan in the top to circulate air.

That would work for dart frogs, since they need very little ventilation, but tree frogs need more than that.
