    Default Terrarium

Hey guys! Been super busy lately and haven't been on in forever! I have a male whites tree frog named Mr.Jelly who is about 2yr and 3 months old! He is in a Zoo Med 12x12x18 terrarium, I was wondering if it is ok for him to stay in the same terrarium instead of getting a larger one! He sleeps during the day in his same log and every night goes on his rock and waits for me to feed him. I feed him 1 cricket a night w/ dusting once a week! He seems fine and happy to me I just want to make sure he is happy in his terrarium he is in! Also, could anyone tell me why he croaks so much, he croaks constantly when he hears my electric toothbrush, or a vacuum haha!

I think It should be fine for the one frog. If you ever want to add more you will want to get a bigger tank for them. One cricket a night seems like it isn't enough food, but I don't own any whites.

I would recommend a 18x18x24 exo-terra instead, because a 2 yr old WTF is fairly large. I agree with Paul, though, he needs more food. I would recommend feeding him at least four, idealy 6-7 crickets every other night, and also purchase a multi-vitamin supplemental powder as well, Repashy is good, but Rep-cal can also do. I also know that Whites and other tree frogs love fake vines, which you can suction around the top edge, and increase the number of things he can climb on.

7 large? Crickets a week doesn't seem too few. If they're smaller than large, I'd up the amount and see how well he eats. Certainly doesn't look underfed though. One tip, I'd get branches to make use of all that vertical space. Once you do that, he will probably never touch the ground.

I agree with Paul, would not add more than one to that size tank.

My male grey tree frog regularly chirps in response to the vacuum cleaner, my daughter's violin, etc. It's normal.

Sorry, I meant to say small crickets, as that's what I do with my two AGTFs, guess my brain just farted.

Thanks for the advice Really helpful!

-I will look into getting more vines- great idea!
-Yes, i do not plan on getting another whites because i want to keep Mr.Jelly healthy and not risk another frog who could get him sick
-I feed him 1 large (practically fully grown cricket) a night! My petco and petsmart have huge crickets!
-I use the Zoo Med Reptivite with D3 is that okay? I'm open to switch if it's not
    Thanks Again!!!!

I prefer repashy- Repashy Calcium Plus (3 oz Jar) - Calcium Plus Supplements | Josh's Frogs - but if the reptivite has calcium and you're gutloading the crickets, it shouldn't be a problem. I know petco says they specially "inject" them, but I still gutload them. It wouldn't hurt to try adding a second cricket each night and seeing how he does. Definitely get that vertical space utilized though, that will make him very happy.

I'll totally look into Repashy! If i got it would i use it to dust the cricket once a week?

Ok, i'll try putting 2 crickets in every other night! He is so spoiled i have to put the cricket right in front of him every night on his rock in order for him to eat it! Haha

I put Flunkers Calcium Fortified Cricket Quencher into the cricket cage for gutloading!

So the 12x12x18 terrarium would be fine with some renovations with more vines, branches?

Yeah it will be fine. I agree with the others on adding some vines and/or branches to make use of all that vertical space in the tank.

He doesn't seem underfed at all so one large is probably good, I just offer my reds more than I think they need nightly and they eat what they want, but I don't know if whites will overeat if given the opportunity.

You should dust the crickets with a Calcium w/ D3 3 times a week and with a Multivitamin once a week.

    Default Terrarium

Just judging by the pics, he seems small for a 2 year old white's. At 2, my white's were eating a dozen and a half large crickets/week. They would have eaten more, but i limited them because yes, they will over eat if given the opportunity.

Calcium products are pretty much an objective thing. If the one you are using is not depriving him of anything, and he seems healthy, stick with it. I jump from product to product quite often, depending on availability.

The lack of vertical space has already been covered. But I would highly consider going up to an 18x18x24 if you can swing it. He would definitely appreciate the room.

His calling, well, that's normal for a male white's. Mine would call to techno music or Paul Simon. Go figure, he had eclectic taste as well. Lol calling is good, it means he's looking for a mate. But don't confuse that with he's lonely. Calling is just the frog's version of a pick up line lol

Thanks y'all! I have a lot of questions! Really glad I have time to get on FF again!

I'll upgrade to dusting crickets 2-3 times a week and i'll buy repasy and dust 1x week!

Yeah, he does seem a little small but whenever i got him from the store he was pretty small! Gosh, he eats up the 1 cricket fast! He would probably eat 6 if i gave him the chance a night

I will try to buy more branches/vines. I would love to buy a 18x18x24 tank but i just got a new built in shelf and i do not know if a bigger terrarium would fit Any ides on what branches/vines i could buy

Thinking about cleaning out his tank this week( putting a whole new layer of coco fiber&hydroballs and moving it to the new shelf = i'm hoping it won't be too much stress on him!
