Thread: Which substrate is best for baby Gray Tree Frogs?

Default Which substrate is best for baby Gray Tree Frogs?

My Gray Tree Frog tadpoles will be turning into frogs soon. I want to begin setting up an enclosure for two of them, but I am not sure what type of substrate would be safe and appropriate for such tiny frogs. Anyone have any experience with raising baby Grays? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Coconut Fiber/Eco Earth are good choices for most frogs. Reptile carpet also works

With babies you could start with damp, unprinted paper towels. That way they can easily see food and you can make sure they're pottying like they should be. Change it once a day. After that you can move on to some type of coconut fiber or something of the sort. Good luck! Bet they are adorable!

As long as it is not that horrible exo terra carpet the one with green mossy looking stringy things attached. But i agree paper towels would be the best
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

I agree...I believe paper towel is best as well and necessary for the juveniles.

    I just wanted to add..........
    -be sue it remains FLAT
-be sure there is enough water to hold the corner/edges down
-you don't want a frog to get under there

FYI -- I have never had substrate in my red eye tree frog tree frog enclosures-
heavily planted --but no substrate. ( my boys are 3-5 years old )

Thank you, Eli, Amy, Lija, and Lynn.

    Very valuable advice.

I'm going to go with the paper towels suggestion. Is there any particular type that is best? I know Amy recommends unprinted. Should it also be unbleached? Is recycled and unbleached okay?

    Thanks again.
