This is far from a disaster, as far as Madagascar goes. They have bigger problems than the cane toad, but they do need to address this one as quickly as possible.

Agreed, there are other threats in Madagascar, that our much more devastating for the wildlife there, though obviously the cane toad will only make things even more worse.

Default Cane toad relative hits Madagascar

Even if it was the greatest disaster ever, i wouldn't label the toad a "pest". Let's not forget that it was us humans that brought the cane toad to Australia and though indirect, it is also because of humans that the asian toad has reached Madagascar.

This is also a media tactic used a lot. They dubbed the Asian toad a relative of the Cane Toad. While this is true, the toads in your backyard are probably closer to the Cane Toad. But by bringing up and animal that people know has caused havoc, the next thing people are going to want to do is kill the next toad they see. Just like they beat the cane toads to death in Australia and gas the forests in Hawaii to kill the Coqui tree frogs.

The Asian toad must be stopped, but we all must be informed and humane.
