    Default Plant database

Since we don't have a plant database on here, and there are SO many plants that can be used in a vivarium, I thought I would start a thread that doubled as a database, and filled with plants we all actually keep. By that I mean I only want pics of YOUR plants in your enclosures. No stock google photos, no pics of plants from greenhouses (Heather lol). No, only the ones you grow yourselves. I will have a small little info post added in on the next post to provide info on the plants.

One thing I do ask, please, please, PLEASE read the thread before adding your plants. Add only duplicates if you have new info to offer about a particular species. This will avoid 25 posts of pothos that say "grows like a weed for me" lol. I will delete any duplicate posts. Not trying to be mean, but this thread could grow long and it needs to be kept streamlined.

I hope this can be a fun and educational thread that helps a lot of people out in the future!!

    Default Plant database

Please include the following info when posting a picture of a plant:

    Common name:
    Latin name (if available):
    What species animal kept with:
    Lighting:
    Substrate:
    Special notes:

I am keeping this basic. Just listing the type animal the plant is kept with will help those less experienced find their species easier instead of matching tank parameters.

Under special notes, add anything you like. Special tips that you find helpful, fertilizers used (if any), ect.

Again, please only add plants you own/have owned. Even if it was a plant that didn't work, add it and note under special notes that you couldn't grow it in your conditions, maybe someone who was able to grow it can help along the way.

Thank you in advance to anyone who participates. I think this will be a great help to all.

And before I start posting plants, a quickie word about toxicity in plants.

A good majority of plants we keep in vivariums are, indeed, toxic, if ingested. Yes, even the beloved pothos is toxic. Toxicity is one of the few defense mechanisms plants have available to them. I am adding links to a few articles about toxicity in pothos. It
Was a quickie search at work, but I think it gives the general idea:

Check out the little root shoot ? on this Aeschynanthus miranthus
When I re-pot it into ABG I will be interested in looking very closely where it is actually located; from the root or the base of the plant.

I think you will find that shoot comes off of the main stem. I do believe their natural propagation method is via pollination and seeds.
