Default Identity of frog from Costa Rica - can't find on google

    Hi all,

This is my first post here. I'm a biologist and general wildlife enthusiast, but my frog knowledge is rather lacking!

We went on a trip to Costa Rica last year and saw some frogs in Tortuguero that we just can't find on google. The main one is this 'purple coloured red eye tree frog':

Apologies for the photo - we went back to get the DSLR but then couldn't find this lovely chap again afterwards!

Can't see anything on google that suggests what this frog is - I'm assuming it's just a melagenous form of a standard green red eyed tree frog? Would love to know, so any help is appreciated!

We were very lucky to see lots of genuine red eye tree frogs whilst we were there - it's such an iconic frog I'd have been dissappointed if we didn't see at least one!

Could be a simple color mutation. Or just in its dark faze.

Beautiful Red-Eye! I am jealous that you got to see such a neat mutation in the wild! How cool!

When I finally can get some Red-eyes, I hope I can find one like this guy! I would love to have one that looked like him!
