Default Toad Having Trouble Catching Food

Hello! I'm new here and this is my first post. I hope I'm posting in the right area. Last summer I caught a wild toad near the lake (I live in Oklahoma). He was about the size of my thumb nail. Well, 10 months later he's much bigger and is super friendly and seems healthy. Well, my question is, the last couple of weeks I've noticed he isn't having luck catching is food like he was. His aim used to be impeccable, but no longer. When he strikes at something on the ground, it's like his head doesn't go far enough down or something. It's hard to explain. I've been finding ways to make it easier for him. He's chasing crickets around like crazy, hopping, swimming, and playing. I don't think he's hurt. I tried Googling it and found nothing. Does anyone have any idea? Also, how long does it take toads to grow to full size? I think he's an American toad. It's been 10 months and he's grown a ton, but I know he isn't full grown. Thanks ahead of time!

    Hello,
    Welcome to Frog Forum.
    We will try to help.
I do not have , nor have I ever cared for a toad
However, lets try to get an answer for you

Have you been dusting his food with calcium and vit supplements ?

If so, what are your using and how often.

Do you see any of these symptoms?
    Tremors
    Is he retaining fluid
Has he pooped - any digestive slowing or changes ?
Does he still 'right' himself the same way ( have you noticed any posture changes)
Above- are all symptom of a calcium deficiency.

Can you post a photo of the toad and the enclosure he is in?

Your frog needs to be accurately identified for proper care.

I will move this tread to the toad section so those here on FF who care for toads can help

Sounds like short tongue syndrome. Lack of vitamin A. Start giving a multi vitamin at each feeding. Also it takes about 2 years for them to mature and the males are also smaller than females. You can also bowl feed which will help a ton. I bowl feed and tong feed all my frogs and toads.
