Default Is my gray tree frog sick?

A few weeks ago we discovered a gray tree frog inside our home. We think he (she?) had been hibernating in a potted plant I brought inside last fall. There is still snow on the ground here in New England, so we bought a terrarium and have been feeding him crickets to keep the little guy going until we can set him free outside when the weather warms up.

Today I noticed the frog is covered in very fine white spots, almost like a dust. Is he/she sick? Is there anything I can do to help?

    Suggestions needed for this newbie!

Thanks for checking in, and sorry for not reporting back. He seems to be doing okay. Whatever it was I saw on his skin has gone away. It's possible he was dry. I keep a water bowl in his terrarium and change it every evening with fresh water, and I mist a couple of times a day. He sits in his water bowl most nights, but maybe he was still a bit parched on that particular day?

I'm no expert in interpreting frog behavior, but my impression is as a wild frog he is unhappy in his current environment. Daytime temperatures were down below freezing again today, but hopefully spring will arrive soon and we can let him go back into the wild. As soon as we hear his brethren sounding in the back yard as we do each spring, we'll know it's safe to turn him loose.

    Thanks again for following up!

That's good to hear. He is probably a bit stressed from being enclosed. Captive bred frogs do better in enclosures than wild caught.

    Is he eating for you?

    You're welcome .

He doesn't eat a ton. Maybe 1-2 baby crickets every couple of days. But he's not moving much either, so I don't know how much energy he's expending. The poor little guy wants to be free. Spring can't come fast enough!
