my crickets and dubia roaches drink calcium water crystals. i believe it's the yellow flukers brand. so if they are gutloaded i don't need to supplement with calcium dust every other week, right? i don't want to over do it. i give multi vitamins every other week as well but on the opposite week than calcium.
one more thing, if i feed my abf something that can bite, a superworm beetle for instance, should i cut off the head?
You do not need to cut the head off of your insects - the idea of mealworms or superworms chewing through the stomach is probably one of the most widley perpetuated old wives tales in the hobby. I've not come across a single documented case where this has happened. I also wouldn't be too concerned about the superworm's ability to bite and cause damage externally; though I can understand the concern from a protective parent. Your frog is more than equipped with the necessary machinery to handle common feeder insects
You should still dust your insects with calcium/multivitamin powder on a regular schedule even if gutloading feeders with a diet rich in calcium. I would actually recommend using a combination of greens, veggies, and fruits in place of those Fluker Farms water crystals. Not only will it provide a wider variety of nutrients, but I've found it also keeps the insects healthier in general. Plus, I try not to support Fluker Farms... not exactly an herp-friendly company contrary to what pet stores make them out to me.

thank you for the info! i figured my big guy could handle the super worm bites but the beetles pincers looked fierce, haha. but that's good to know because he won't eat it dead anyways. and i offer my feeders fresh potatoes, carrots and other various left over greens from my tortoise (the thick stems of collard and kale, not old food) along with chicken mash, Cheerios and premium dry dog food. the only commercial item i offer is the crystals.
