Default Red eyed tree frog not eating(been 10d)

I got my red eyed tree frog Ruby 10 days ago and she has not eaten since I got her. I know they need atleast a week adjustment period, but my question is how much longer can she go without eating before I need to worry? I did lots of research before I got her. I have an 18x24 terrarium and heat/humidity has been perfect. I also put a class container with about 3 crickets in the tank every night along with loose crickets. Overall she seems healthy and adjusting well to her environment and the temp/humidity in the tank seems perfect. I have been trying to be patient and tell myself she will eat when she's ready but is there anything else I can do? Any advise would be much appreciated 😊

    Hey,

Sorry you are having some issue with your new Red Eye. Can you post some specifics.

    Daytime Temp

    Nighttime temp

    Humidity

How long do you leave the lights on for during the day?

A picture of the tank would be nice.

Make sure the crickets you are offering your frog are no bigger than the space between your frogs eyes. Those will do for now. There is a "Trouble in the tank" thing the mods paste into the comments for issues, but I can't find it lol.

    Here you go.

    Trouble in the Enclosure:

Please reply to each question so we may help.

    1. Size of enclosure?

    2. # on inhabitants - specifically (if there is another frog ---size differences ?)

    7. Enclosure set up i.e. plants (live or artificial) wood, bark etc. How were things prepared prior to being put into the vivarium/terrarium?

    8. Main food source?

    9. Frog food: how often and if it's diverse what other feeders are used as treats?

    10. Vitamins and calcium?
    How often? Brands used?

    11. Lighting (what kind)?

Do you follow a day/night lighting schedule?

    12. What is, specifically, being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure?

    13. When is the last time he ate?

    14. Have you found poop lately?

    Did it look normal?

    15. A pic of the frog would be great any little cell phone pic is fine.

Please also provide a tank photo if possible.

    16. How old is the frog?

    17. How long have you owned him?

    18. Is the frog wild caught or captive bred?

    19. About how often is the frog handled?

Do you wash hands prior and/or use gloves?

    20. Is the enclosure is kept in a high or low traffic area?

    21. Describe enclosure maintenance (cleaning etc).

    22. For aquatic species:
Have you tested your aquarium water for:

    Ph?
    Ammonia?
    Nitrates?

    23. What filtering system are you using for any aquarium or pond areas in the enclosure?

    24. How often do you perform water changes and what percentage of water?

The size of the terrarium is 24x18. I have a bark tree, lots of large plastic leaves, coconut bark substrate, moss, and a stone pool for soaking(water change everyday).
Temp always seems to be around 70, I am not sure yet how to increase/decrease the temp and not sure if it may be a problem. The humidity is between 70 and 85 fluctuating from day to night. I mist the tank 2-3 times a day and I have an LED lamp on for about a 12 hr cycle and completely dark at night.
I recently added the large plastic leaves a few days ago but not sure if this may have delayed her adjustment. I read after not to change anything in the tank at first but I wanted leaves big enough for her to sit on and hide behind.

I am using unchlorinated water which I change everyday. I have been getting up in the middle of the night every night (quietly so I dont disturb her) so that I know she has been active at night. Hard to tell during the day when she sleeps all day. When she is up she doesnt seem stressed but this is my first red eye so I dont know what the sighns are of being stressed (besides not eating). I have Grey tree frogs that have been so easy to take care of since the beginning. They will eat right out of my fingers, I also can tell instantly with them if they are stressed (eyes bulging and throat fluttering very fast).
I just want to do whatever I can for her to help her adjust and I think I am. It may just be a waiting game and be patient, which is killing me

Oh, also, I have only the back of the terrarium covered. Sides are completely open .Does this make a difference? I feel like its too open but not sure if it matters to her b/c she usually sleeps right out in the open. She has plenty of branches to climb on and lots of large plastic leaves.
This is the tank (would only upload sideways)

Covering the sides helps them to feel less stressed. More secure/safe .

Try and warm up the tank to 78'F during the day and 76'F at night. You can add a UTH (under tank heater) pad to one side. Temps too cold will slow down their metabolism, make them less hungry, and can actually stress them. This makes them more prone to illness. Is it possible to turn up the room heat a bit? I used to use a ceramic heat bulb in a dimmer dome lamp. It worked nicely but it can really heat the top screen, which I did not like. I now heat the room with a ceramic tower heater on a thermostat, though I doubt most people would want to do this. I have 14 frogs in my room and a gecko, so it's much easier than a bunch of heat lamps. You can also use a 50watt red heat bulb in a dimmer dome lamp. The heat level can be adjusted by the dimmer switch on the cord to the heat level you need. The downside with heat lamps is they dry out the tank, requiring more mistings, and if you're not careful and you mist the bulb or hot glass with cool water they can shatter. Some turtle bulbs have a safety coating on the glass of the bulb to prevent this. I use them for my turtles. The UTH heat pads are easiest. They will raise the temp anywhere from about 2 to 5'F estimated, depending on the size pad you get.

In my experience if anything stresses them out at all during the day they will let you know by not eating that next night. Try increasing the temp in the terrarium a but. They like it up around 75 - 78 during the day and 70 - 75 at night ( at least mine do)

I keep the humidity between 70% and 80% as well.

Try to limit any future changes to here home till she/he settles in. Replace her water daily like you have been, but try to have all the water changed and anything else you need to do in the tank done before the lights go out and she starts waking up.

Offering the crickets in the bowl is the way to go. If there are any uneaten crickets in the terrarium they can stress her out as well. I would try to not bother her/him for the next few nights after the lights go out and see if she starts eating some.

Well I guess Heather and I had the same input lol.

I tried the UTH and did not like them. I also disliked heat bulbs for the reasons Heather stated (they dry the tank out).

I use a Ceramic heat emitter for my Reds right now and I love it. I have it connected to a Hydrotherm that turned the CHE on and off to maintain the daytime temps at 78 and then it allows the temps to drop to 75 at night.

With the information you have provided I would say getting the temps up will do wonders for your new frog and may even get her to eat some

Thanks so much! I had thought the tank should be warmer, but has been 70 degrees steady all week. I already have a pretty good size under the tank heater which I thought would be enough and I replaced the mesh top which helped with the humidity and has been right where it should be (80-85%) but it has not helped with increasing the heat. I was thinking I am probably need to get a lamp also but I didnt really like the idea of the lamps for fear of getting to hot or melting anything. I was not aware that uneaten loose crickets can stress her out, good to know! Im going to cover the sides of the tank also I think your right, I think its too open and she will probably feel safer more closed in. thanks so much for the advise

Thanks so much! I didnt feel that 70 degrees was warm enough even with 80% humidity. I have a solid cover on the top instead of the mesh and the under the tank heater (good size) and temp will not go over 70. I put 3 crickets in the bowl at night and take them out in the morning. Im going to try and not get up in the night to check on her, its going to be hard because Im so worried about her. This is day 13 of her not eating (that I know of). All the crickets have still been in the glass container and I havent seen her go to the bathroom yet. Thanks again for the advise!

Are the crickets you are feeding her smaller than the space between here eyes? If not she may not be eating because they are to big... Just a thought. I really hope she starts eating for you soon!

I had looked at the ceramic heat emitter at first but was not familiar with them so I went with the under tank heater. I think I will try this as I dont want to use the heat bulb. I used it on my Gray tree frogs and it melted the top of the cage so I brought it back and went with the UTH with them too. Thanks!
