I am trying to order European Nightcrawlers for my pacman... Someone on here referred me to redearthworms.com. I have also looked at Speedy Worm and Worms4earth.com. Has anyone else used any of these sites? Or is there somewhere different to recommend? Worms4earth and RedEarthWorms are close in price... around $30 for 1 lb. Speedy Worm is $8 for 100, $19 for 250.. which is about a pound according to the other sites. I won't complain about a lower price!! But skeptical because it is a decent price difference. ALSO! Can I keep them in whatever they're shipped in (packaging/soil)? Or will I need something else?
Thanks!!!!!
European night crawlers need to be kept at cool room temps 60-70F, not in refrigerator like Canadian ones. If buying a small amount, you can keep in their original container. However; if buying a large number, will need to transfer to a worm bin and care for them as if culturing. Due to soil weight those worms arrive in a minimal amount of substrate. There is lot's of information at worm sites about their pH, temperature, food needs and how to build a culture bin. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
I have an indoor vermicompost bin that I keep my european nightcrawlers in. It's a rubbermaid tote with air holes up top. I use shredded newspaper as bedding and toss in some vegan scraps every week. As long as you bury the scraps under the newspaper, it won't smell. Be sure the scraps are gone before you add more. I got mine from European Nightcrawlers are good for both composting and fishing. who claim 400 worms per pound and offer free shipping. It depends on the size of the worm as to how many are in a pound. The difference in price is whether you want older worms (bigger bait worms sold by Speedy Worm for fairly immediate use) or a mix of sizes and even eggs (sold by redworms and redearthworms to generate a composting colony).
Here is the link to the thread about culturing nightcrawlers with more information
