I need some advice on how to keep a healthy, thriving fruit fly cultures in the winter time. I don't have the luxury of a frog room, so the frogs need to be in my basement with temps between 52-59 now, and 62-66 in the summer.
Me too--- the basement has its challenges in the winter
But... we get pay-back in the summer
Mine sit in trays on seedling starter mats:
I use this product:

(great on-line store BTW ! )
Thermostats are available ( but I don't use them)
If it's too .......warm I simply lift the tray off mats a bit.
I run them -when needed- at night
I set the cultures in the tray NOT directly on the mat.
They get warm---- but work like a charm
