Almost ANY species of tree frog. Grey, green, big-eyed tree frogs are all good economical choices.

Almost ANY dart frog would do well in a 12X12X18. I wouldn't put in more than a pair and you would want to stick to the same species.

    Hi

This a great size tank for a grow -out or QT enclosure
    A little small.
    If this is the foot-print----- 12 x 12 x 18H
    (I'll assume this questions refers to 18" H )

Then 5-6 " of substrate is added....1" of background is added

Now you have 11x12x14 = 30 liters of which is just under 7 gallons

If we want to give a species of PDFs the opportunity to climb ( D leucomelas) a 24"H is the way to go.

Smaller tanks never got to waste! They are great for .....froglets !
Then you need more big tanks >>>>>>>>>>>>> and thus ...that's how "it" happens; that's how you
know you have been inflicted with this , what may be , incurable disease of which is associated with
    very specific symptoms

Lynn gave you good advice in regards to your enclosure size. If a 12x12 in., my advice would be not to build a custom background that would further reduce the enclosure's footprint. Instead would get a nice branched piece of wood that reaches to top and locate that in center. Add vines with moss growing on them and fill up the enclosure with plants. If so desired you can add aquarium background paper to enclosure outside (clinging type works well). Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

If you spray the gs on and give it a chance to expand you can press the air out and get your space back.
