    Default Getting back into darts?

Lately, I've been toying with the possibility of getting a few dart frogs to breed. I kinda like the idea of getting a sexed pair of Ranitomeya ventrimaculata, but I'm not really sure what species to get. They'd live in a 10-gallon tank and I'd like to know how to convert it into a vertical tank if necessary. Stan and Wendy passed away before they had a chance to breed, and I want to prevent that happening again. Any pointers, tips, questions, and comments are more than welcome!

Hi Brett! Well, this two links should get you started on the 10 gallon conversion & build: http://www.frogforum.net/vivarium-te...struction.html and Frog Forum - Building Dart Frog Terrariums / Tropical Terrarium Construction.

However... even though Ranitomeya's are small; they do benefit from a larger taller enclosure like an 18x18x24 in. ExoTerra. Plant it well (include Bromeliads), vines and wood and you are set. R. ventrimaculata are more reclusive than R. imitators; so consider that while building their enclosure. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Which dart frog is generally considered to be the most suitable for a first breeding project? Also, where can I find a sexed pair?

Recommend visit Josh Frog's site and read the information in there. Then contact him and ask if he could pick you a pair (or trio if needed). If available locally, or at a show, you can try and sex them yourself. Male darts are a bit smaller and slender .

    Home Page - Dendrobati

My auratus are very shy, I rarely see them ?

I believe a 10 gallon vert is on the small side. You'll get by .... but by the time 5-6 inches of space is taken by the substrate, it does't leave much room.

Consider an exo terra 18x18x24, of which will need a little modification of the lid ( ie replacing the screen to glass)

Here's a beautiful sexed pair of 'Patricia'
