Default My RETF despise the glass bowl method...

On several occasions we have tried putting a small glass bowl in the terrarium to feed the frogs from. Each time they wake up at night and perch above it on vines and just stare at the crickets. Almost looks like they are trying to will the frogs out of the bowl. After a while they give up and start hunting around their home for food. eventually we dump out the bowl and they chow down on 3 or 4 crickets each.

I tried it again tonight because the stupid pet store only had pin head crickets and are way smaller than the RETF should be eating.. again they just stared at the bowl for 2 hours before I caved and dumped the tiny cricket on the substrate.

Guys my little boy and girl just enjoy the thrill of the hunt....

on a side note they recently wake up at different times. June wakes up 10 - 20 mins after the lights go out and feeds then goes back to sleep for an hour or so. during her little nap Roy wakes up and eats his crickets. then they hang out and stare at each other. Its rather comical.

    Hi Paul
You want the bowl to be large enough.( I use clear glass pyrex 1.75 QT )
I has a pretty good size side on it. ? 3-1/2--4"
A healthy cricket can leap out of one that has too short a side.

It's a learning cure for them.
Put the crickets in both places for a while---- that will help.
You might see them go after the crickets from outside the bowl
--- but they lean very quickly that they have to climb in.

We will have to shop around for a different glass bowl to try. The one we have is small enough i think. We also just really enjoy watching them hunt them down in the terrarium.

They also hate any bit of red light that we try to use on them at night, but don't mind the TV being on.. In fact i swear Roy watches TV

    Paul,
Try complete darkness. They will love it !
At the very least ,until they establish a good routine.
You can sneak up with a little flashlight.

IMO ...no lights of any kind- ever.
    Give it a whirl ?
